integration: the importance of taking some time for yourself after a session
Somatic Journey’s can bring up emotions and experiences that were previously repressed. Though you will be rested and relaxed after a session, I do not recommend scheduling something that takes all of your attention or is stressful. Make the time after your session as much part of your journey as the session itself. It’s called ‘integration’ and it’s free. This is your me-time.
Integration helps to integrate the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of a session and can be done in many ways. From journaling, taking a walk in nature, cooking, gardening, or anything else that does not take a lot of mental activity.
In general, I don’t recommend sharing the details of your experience within 48 hours with others. Not when deep emotions come up and not when an experience has been positive above expectations and you feel so good you want to share it with all of your friends. Instead, cultivate your own space. This way you give your mind-body system the time to digest and germinate. Additionally: by not engaging in extensive conversation, you avoid the pitfall of going into thinking mode.
All in all, integration is important because this way you get the most out of your session.
